MountainPlan Rock Climbing courses start on the 1st of April and run through to the 1st of October.

Rock Climbing

The summer rock climbing courses we offer have a wide choice of levels and should provide just the course your looking for be it an introduction to the sport or looking at the more technical learning to lead. So if you have not had any previous experience with rock climbing, if you are at home playing partypoker and are thinking of new things to do, then this is a great place to learn an exciting hobby. The Highlands offer a huge choice when it comes to rock climbing with sea cliff to big mountain settings and lots of valley cragging. Rock climbing has gained popularity since the advent of indoor climbing walls that has brought the sport to the towns and citys. All our courses are run by experienced and qualified MIA’s or British mountain guides.

Intro to rock:

This is ideal for someone who has an interest in rock climbing but is new to it and would like to have a go. We aim to introduce people using small and friendly crags where we can set up ropes and let people have a go. We will also teach you some basic technique and also how to ‘belay’ (looking after the rope whilst your partner is climbing). Course cost is £150 per day adding a further £20 per head on top to maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 6 clients.

Indoors to outdoors:

With an increasing number of people being introduced to the sport through indoor climbing walls we offer a course that provides the next step to getting out on the real rock. We will look at some of the gear required to climb outside and also at more rock specific technique. We will aim to use valley crags so as to climb as many routes as possible giving you the best amount of time on the rock. By the end of this course you should be a competent second. Course cost is £160 per day adding a further £20 per head on top to maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 2 clients.

Learn to lead:

This is our most popular course this is ideal for those who are competent seconds and have experience of leading at an indoor wall. We will look in depth into building belays, placing protection and rope management. We will also coach movement and technique and how to read and understand topos and guidebooks. We shall also start to look at abseiling and retreating from the climb safely. Course cost is £160 per day adding a further £20 per head on top to maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 2 clients.

Rescue and emergency rope work:

This is a course for those who are already lead climbers but would like to know what to do when things go wrong. We shall look at and practice ways of escaping the system and rescuing your climbing partner. This is a practical course and will all take place outside on the rock in both single pitch and multi pitch situations. We will also look into what first aid we can use to help an injured climber and the best ways too look after them. Course cost is £160 per day adding a further £20 per head on top to maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 2 clients.

Private guiding:

We offer private guiding on routes and areas of your choice. If you have always wanted to climb classic routes like Centurion, Tower ridge or Central Grooves then this would be the style of course for you. We would aim to guide you safely and give you a great experience on the routes of your choosing or we are happy to give our suggestions on the best routes to tackle. Course cost is £170 per day adding a further £20 per head on top to maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 2 clients.
