MountainPlan Summer Hill Skills courses start on the 1st of April and run through to the 1st of October.

Summer Hill Skills

The UK’s summer mountains offer a huge wealth of great hill walking and adventure. With the craggy scrambling tops of North Wales to the wildernesses feel of the Scottish Highlands many great journeys can be had. We offer a range of courses that will help you get the skills needed to make those journeys safely. We operate in the Highlands and run our courses either in the Glen Coe, Fort William (Ben Nevis), Cairngorms, Skye and the North West.

Hill Skills

This is an instruction course that aims to give clients over the course of a 2 day or 5 day period the skills needed to travel through the hills safely. We aim to look in depth into navigation the most important skill required. We shall look into reading and interpreting the map, compass bearings, pacing and timing and also some navigation in the dark. Equipment, Emergency procedures and some simple first aid will also be covered. Reading and interpreting the weather and what it means to us on the hill. Course cost is £160 per day for one person then £20 per head on top to a maximum of 1 instructor to 8 clients.

Summer Munro bagger

This is a course that can be based in the Highlands in the area of your choice. We would aim to cover as many of Scotland’s Munros in the time that you have booked for. We will also cover some of the skills that are listed in the summer hill skills course. There is also the option on this course for us to wild camp and also to use the mountain bothys that are in the Highlands. Course cost is £160 per day for one person then £20 per head on top to a maximum of 1 instructor to 8 clients.

Summer walking throughout the UK

We are also happy to guide people in some of the other mountain areas of the UK. People looking for things to do when they are in North Wales or the Lake District can arrange through us a trip of their choosing and we will be happy organise that for you. Course cost is £160 per day for one person then £20 per head on top to a maximum of 1 instructor to 8 clients.

Summer qualification refresher courses

Having been through the AMI qualification system and also working with many different groups on the hill and at the crag, we have decided to offer a course that will cater for those people who are going through the tickets and are maybe in between training and assessment and would like a refresher maybe just to check that you are practising the right thing or maybe you have had a gap between training and assessment and would like to check you are still current. For these days please just get in contact and we will be glad to talk through your requirements. Key Areas : group management, short roping, belay setup, navigation, belaying techniques, biving.
